ATD Releases Statement on Issuance of CARB Omnibus NOx Waiver
TYSONS, Va. (December 20, 2024)—American Truck Dealers (ATD) released the following statement in response to EPA’s granting of California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) request for a waiver allowing the agency to retroactively enact and enforce separate NOx tailpipe emissions standards for new heavy-duty engines developed for model years 2024 and 2027.
“ATD is disappointed that U.S. EPA granted CARB’s request for a waiver for its overburdensome Heavy-Duty Vehicle and Engine “Omnibus” Low NOx Regulations. ATD has long-supported policies that deliver real-world emissions reductions and benefits for America’s trucking industry. California's aggressive emissions standards for heavy-duty diesel engines have contributed to product shortages and rationing, resulting in market disruption and uncertainty. EPA had an opportunity to realign California under one federal NOx standard, eliminating the crippling patchwork of regulations the industry is experiencing today. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration chose to side with California regulators.”
