Many of us overlook the simplicity of getting from Point A to Point B in a reliable vehicle, but for a young family in need of dependable transportation, a trustworthy car can be life-changing.
That was the case for Harmony Alexander and her 8-month-old son Harmon. Harmony, a 21-year-old veterinary technician and a college student, recently received a 2013 Ford Taurus from NADA Board Member Mark Hebert’s Town & Country Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Shreveport, Louisiana, through the Vehicles for Change (VFC) program.
“The past year has been all about becoming a responsible adult,” said Alexander. “Owning a vehicle will change our lives by giving us access to more opportunities and allowing me to rely on myself instead of others.”
Since 1999, VFC has awarded 8,000 cars to low-income families, changing the lives of more than 26,000 people. Harmony will pay just $950 for her family’s new car and will have peace of mind with a generous six-month/6,000-mile warranty.
Thanks to the kind donations of individuals like Mark Hebert and their continued partnership with VFC, local dealers are continuing to make an impact where it matters – their communities.
“Transportation is one of the most valuable assets a family can have,” said Hebert. “Not only does it help with day-to-day needs, but it also opens doors to new opportunities for success. We take great pride in helping families achieve this kind of independence.”
