In 2022 Pohanka Automotive Group of Salisbury began a new venture to educate, train and certify their own technicians. Under the direction of David White, the Pohanka Automotive Training Center welcomed their first class of students in the fall of 2022.

The program was created to certify technicians and remove all barriers that may be preventing future technicians from following their dreams. The program is offered to students of all ages, as young as high school juniors, free of charge. Tools and digital textbooks are provided as well as a part-time job in one of Pohanka of Salisbury’s nine dealerships. After the two-year program the students, are fully trained and have a guaranteed position as a technician with Pohanka Automotive.

On June 26, Pohanka of Salisbury welcomed the first 13 graduates of the Pohanka Automotive Training Center to their experienced staff. Maryland Department of Labor officials, including Chris MacLarion, Apprenticeship and Training Director with the Maryland Department of Labor, Alicia Dennis, Apprenticeship Navigator with the Division of Workforce Development, and Bob Hendrix with the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance, as well as Senator Marybeth Corozza and Delegate Tom Hutchinson attended the graduation.

Pohanka of Salisbury, under the direction of VP/ Dealer Operator Sandy Angello, is one of the first dealership groups in the nation to train and certify their own service technicians.
