This year is gearing up to be an exciting and busy one for the voice of America’s commercial truck dealers, according to American Truck Dealers (ATD) President Laura Perrotta.

Not only is the association in the midst of developing a three-year strategic plan to guide ATD and future ATD Shows, Perrotta and her team are continuing to focus on advocacy and promoting ATD in the halls of Capitol Hill and in regulatory agencies. “Engaging with Congress and telling our story is an important piece of what ATD does,” Perrotta said from the Live Stage at the 2023 NADA Show.

On the legislative front, ATD is pushing for the repeal of the Federal Excise Tax (FET), fighting Right to Repair bills, supporting bills to curb catalytic converter thefts, asking for clarification and working to educate truck dealers on the new EV tax credits and educating decision-makers on the real world impact of the burdensome nitrous oxide rules at both the federal and state level.

ATD is also focused on education, making sure the ATD Academy is continually improving its curriculum. For example, the ATD Academy recently launched a commercial truck service advisor’s course.

Perrotta is urging members to get engaged at all levels and pledged that ATD will continue to advocate on their behalf. Members who want to get involved should consider registering for 2023 ATD Truck Industry Forum and Legislative Fly-In at the Capitol Hilton in Washington D.C. on June 20-21, Perrotta said. Registration will open in early February.
