Automotive News recently released its annual 40 Under 40 list, and we saw a few familiar faces included in the ranks.

Carmen Hinton, service manager at Carter Myers Automotive’s Valley Subaru in Staunton, Va., won the 5th annual Women Driving Auto Retail Video Contest in March 2022. In her video, Hinton outlined her career path throughout the dealership, including positions as a receptionist, accountant and service advisor. Hinton now leads a team of 14 technicians and advisors.

“I like being the support system that people can rely on if they are in need of anything,” she said. “I like to be the cheerleader on the side to encourage everyone to be better.”

Tristan Topps, human resources manager at Penske Auto Group in Scottsdale, Ariz., spoke with NADA in March 2023 about the recruitment trends in the industry. She is particularly energized by the opportunities available to women.

“We are going to be at the forefront,” she said. “And as the industry changes and evolves, women are going to continue to make their places known within this industry. It's exciting, and I look forward to seeing what the future has, not only for the automotive industry but for all the women that work within it.”

One of NADA’s core roles is education. While this often translates to resources and trainings for the auto retail workforce, it also crucially includes recruitment of the next generation of auto retail leaders.

By raising the profiles of individuals such as Hinton, Topps and their fellow honorees, more people can see the exciting and accessible careers in the industry. Whether it is in the service lane or on the lot, there is room for everyone at the dealership.

Congratulations to the talented group of leaders honored in this year’s list.
