Dealers Bring Food to Local Tables Across the Country

This holiday season, auto dealers across the country are rolling up their sleeves and opening their checkbooks to support their communities. NADA has been overwhelmed with stories of dealers donating to their local charities in order to put food on the table for the winter holidays.

Gobble gobble! The Bruner Auto Group gave turkeys away at their Early, Texas store the week before Thanksgiving. Dolan Auto Group also provided 1,500 turkeys for Thanksgiving baskets distributed at Catholic Charities Food Pantries in Northern Nevada. Hendrick Automotive in Charleston, S.C. donated 1,000 meals to Lowcountry Food Bank in their decade-long, annual holiday food drive.

“It’s a wonderful commitment for them,” Brenda Shaw, chief development officer at the Lowcountry Food Bank, said of Hendrick Automotive. “But I also think that it gives their employees a great sense of accomplishment that they’re doing something wonderful for the community. They are giving back to schools and veterans who need the assistance.”

Jim Butler Auto Group stores are helping fight Missouri food insecurity by donating $50 for every car sold in November and December to Operation Food Search and the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. They have also set a target to collect 3,500 pounds of shelf-stable pantry items.

“Food security gives families peace-of-mind, helps kids focus on school and play, and ensures people won’t have to miss out on life’s most important moments like sharing a meal together during the holidays,” said Jim Butler Auto Group President and CEO Brad Sowers.

For car dealers, giving back to the community is not exclusive to the holidays. Mazda of South Charlotte, N.C.; Allen Turner Hyundai in Pensacola, Fla.; Boardman Subaru in Youngstown, Ohio; Fred Beans Ford of Boyertown in Penn.; Phil Meador Auto Group in Pocatello, Idaho; Miller Hill Subaru in Duluth, Minn.; Sunset Hills Subaru in Saint Louis, Mo.; Jim Hudson Automotive Group in Columbia, S.C.; Kunes Ford in East Moline, Ill.; Volkswagen of Wesley Chapel in Florida; Dan Hecht Chevrolet Toyota and Roy Schmidt Honda in Effingham, Ill.; and Chilson Subaru in Eau Claire, Wis. are just a few of the dealers who have donated to their local food pantries this year.

The Toyota Lexus Minority Owners Dealership Association (TLMODA), 26 dealerships across the nation, distributed more than 5,200 food boxes in the spring at participating dealerships in 17 states.

“Community is one of TLMODA’s strategic areas of focus,” TLMODA President Carlos Liriano said. “Hosting a day of service — this time to provide food for children and their families during their spring break from school, when many don’t have access to free breakfasts and lunches — is another way for TLMODA to give back to and support our communities.”
